White Sage Bundle Organic

A member of the mint family, white sage is an evergreen shrub native to the sunny, arid slopes of southern and Baja California. Unfortunately, wild stands of Salvia apiana are at risk for overharvest and have been placed on the Untied Plant Savers “To Watch” list. Aware of the many pressures on wild populations, Mountain Rose Herbs only offers organically cultivated white sage.

For centuries, white sage has been a revered botanical for many Native American tribes. The aromatic plant has a history of traditional uses both for its healthful qualities as well as ceremonial use. We acknowledge the long-established cultural and spiritual significance white sage holds for many indigenous cultures and the stewardship that has ensued for generations.

Many prominent herbalists have suggested that enthusiasts may also consider growing their own white sage as well as studying traditional uses of the plant. To use, light the end of the bundle then blow out the flame so that the leaves begins to smoke. Lightly fanning the bundle will encourage an even burn and release of the fragrant scent. To extinguish, simply snuff out the smoking end in sand, water, or a fireproof dish.
