Our St. John’s wort oil makes a superb ally for general skin care. With an incredibly versatile array of properties, this extraordinary oil can be incorporated into an endless variety of body care recipes. External use only.
We make this herbal oil using two different techniques depending on the time of year. When available, fresh St. John’s wort is used, producing a deep red oil full of all the properties sought in this herbal oil. The dried material, while still containing all the properties of the oil made from fresh material, produces a lighter colored oil.
How It’s Made
When available, we infuse our St. John’s wort herbal oil with fresh plant material. Weather conditions and crop success affect how much we are able to produce each year, making our fresh oil maceration a limited supply.
When the fresh material runs short, we use an alcohol intermediary technique with dried plant material. This process starts by adding alcohol to the herb before the oil infusion step, which helps to extract additional alcohol-soluble properties. For this method, you will notice that the ingredient list will include alcohol and water. The water is a natural part of the alcohol solution and does not affect the shelf-life.
