Ginkgo biloba is the oldest living tree species on the planet today having thrived for more than 225 million years. Native to a small range within China, it is difficult to find ginkgo growing in the wild but the tree is extensively cultivated around the world. Remarkably hardy, ginkgo trees are slow to grow and can live over 1,000 years. The tree has bright green fan-shaped leaves which yellow in the fall before dropping. The female trees produce small globular fruits with a distinctive unpleasant odor, leading many cultivators to grow only male trees.

Ginkgo leaf has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for its wellness-supporting properties. Although it has its roots in TCM, the healthful benefits of ginkgo have reached across the globe. It is a prominent herb in many folk herbal practices today as well as in modern medicine. Ginkgo supports overall cognitive health and helps maintain healthy circulation.*

Recent research into the plant has discovered a range of active compounds in the leaves and this has excited a lot of interest in the health-promoting potential of the plant. The leaves contain ginkgolides, which are compounds that are unknown in any other plant species. Scientists are continuing to discover an amazing range of benefits from this ancient herb. After the bombing at Hiroshima, surveyors examined the effect of the blast on local plant populations. Throughout the devastation, six ginkgo trees survived the bombing, the closest of which still lives less than 1,200 meters from the epicenter. This tree stands as an international symbol of resilience and the ginkgo itself is regarded as a “bearer of hope.”

Our ginkgo tincture is made with fresh organic leaf by our qualified extract team in Eugene, Oregon. Ginkgo extract blends well with gotu kola extract, garlic extract, and rosemary extract. Add to herbal tea like memory zest tea or to your morning caffeinated tea like spring green tea. The liquid extract can also be taken alone either on the tongue, in water, or in juice.
