Red Root Extract

Red root is a shrub also referred to as wild snowball for its clusters of white flowers that bloom in early summer. It has roots that grow to an impressive diameter of nearly 8 inches, contributing to the plant’s resilient ability to withstand unfavorable conditions. Red root often goes by the name of New Jersey tea due to it having been a substitute for tea during the American Revolutionary War. This plant is native to Canada extending to Manitoba and as far-reaching southwards as Texas and South Carolina. It is often utilized in landscaping due to its hardiness and lovely white blossoms.

The roots of Ceanothus americanus have a bitter flavor and the tea has a “bite” to it. These roots also have an astringency that has led to the traditional use of this herb as a mouthwash. Herbalists commonly employ red root as an alterative. Red root has a plethora of uses and is often prepared as a decoction, an infusion, or as a tincture.

Our red root extract is crafted in small batches with organic alcohol by our expert extract team in Eugene, Oregon. Red root tincture is slightly aromatic with a sweet and subtly bitter taste and an astringency that lingers in the mouth. This extract can be taken in water or juice or paired with other herbs such as red clover extract or burdock extract. Red root tincture is a nice addition to blossoms of health tea or echinacea & elder tea.
