Amyris essential oil is a base note steam distilled from the wood of Amyris balsamifera. This evergreen bush grows wild in its native home of Haiti and has been introduced to other tropical regions. The nicknames ”candle wood” or ”torch wood” are often used because of the oil content of the wood making it highly flammable. Amyris oil is typically used in perfumes, soaps, and massage oil blends. It can help support healthy skin and has positive benefits for the immune system as a whole when used in aromatherapy.
Aroma
The subtly warming, woody and balsamic notes are balanced with sweet vanilla-like undertones that reveal as it dries. There is a slight bitterness in the initial aroma of this oil and the scent in general is faint

Contains valerianol, α-eudesmol, and elemol.
Blending and Uses
Amyris is a resinous essential oil with a complex aroma. It is fantastic in aromatherapeutic blends geared towards relaxation and calm states of mind. This oil is a fixative, and when used in blends helps to extend other scents by slowing the evaporation of volatile aromatic compounds. Its fixative properties are also helpful when used in soaps or candles to help other scents linger.
This oil can be used in the diffuser at the end of the day or before sleep to create a serene atmosphere. Amyris oil can help support a calm and relaxed state of mind.
Amyris essential oil is a beautiful base for feminine, masculine, or neutral aroma blends. Use in aromatic woodland perfumes or with floral oils to recall a fresh spring breeze. Amyris blends well with woody notes like cedarwood, sandalwood, or ho wood, and resin oils such as myrrh, elemi, or frankincense. It also combines well with sweeter aromas like sweet orange or tangerine, and with the florals lavender, jasmine, or rose.
Like most resinous essential oils, over time this oil will become slightly thicker and can leave a somewhat sticky residue around the neck of the bottle. Though it occasionally bears the nickname West Indian sandalwood there is not much resemblance between the two oils past a few of the resinous notes, and amyris is not botanically related to any species of sandalwood.
Packaging
1/2 oz. and 1 oz. essential oils are packaged in amber glass bottles with drop reducers for easy application. Larger sizes are packaged in amber screw cap bottles and do not come with reducers or droppers.
Safety
No known precautions. Never use essential oils undiluted, in eyes or mucus membranes. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified and expert practitioner. Keep away from children.
Before using perform a small patch test on your inner forearm or back. Apply a small quantity of diluted essential oil and cover with a bandage. If you experience any irritation use carrier oil or cream to further dilute the essential oil, and then wash with soap and water.
