Harvested from the eastern coastal waters of North America, Alaria esculenta is often referred to as Atlantic wakame. Biologically and nutritionally similar to Japanese wakame, Alaria is a common substitute for its Pacific cousin. Nutritious with a unique flavor, Atlantic wakame flakes can be added to most foods and is especially delicious in soup.
Wakame is a seaweed that looks and tastes like a slippery spinach. It can be used in the same ways as many other seaweeds including in soup and as an addition to green or fruit salads. When dried wakame is soaked in water it expands to at least 10 times its dried size. It is also called babberlocks, bladder locks, edible focus, kelp and winged kelp.

Seaweeds contain naturally high levels of iodine. This product is harvested from the sea. May contain occasional shell fragments.
