Organic black spruce essential oil is steam distilled from the needles and twigs of Picea mariana. Also known as black pine, these evergreen trees grow across Canada and parts of the United States. This middle note conjures fresh coniferous forests and is found in many winter and holiday-themed blends, but can be enjoyed year round.
This pungent oil can be used in body care salves and blended with carrier oils for massage. Enjoy its soothing, ground qualities in your diffuser. Like other oils from the pine family, black spruce can also be used in household cleaning recipes.
Aroma
This oil is fresh and crisp with pungent, warm, and balsamic notes. The forest-like scent has sweet accents, creating a synergistic aroma profile.
Constituents
Contains α-pinene, camphene, bornyl acetate. α-Pinene is in numerous oils such as St. John’s wort, angelica root, cistus, lavender tea tree, and valerian. Camphene and bornyl acetate are both found in Douglas fir, sage, and valerian oils.
Blending and Uses
Black spruce essential oil can be used to create beautiful diffuser blends to help us center and relax. Combine with cedarwood, Douglas fir, and spearmint for an invigorating experience or diffuse alone for a simple evergreen aroma.
This oil has many applications in different types of body and skin care recipes. Add to your favorite face cream or serum with Australian sandalwood and helichrysum for a glowing complexion. Blend with your favorite carrier oil with wintergreen, vetiver and lavender for occasional muscle soreness. Black spruce adds lovely notes to perfumes and colognes. Try this woody blend with sage, juniper berry, and palo santo. For a sweet and floral aroma combine with ylang ylang, bergamot, and geranium oils.
Black spruce can be blended with peppermint, eucalyptus, or rosemary oils in chest rubs or facial steams to support healthy breathing. This oil is also great for household cleaning recipes with lemon and orange.
Packaging
1/2 oz. and 1 oz. essential oils are packaged in amber glass bottles with drop reducers for easy application. Larger sizes are packaged in amber screw cap bottles and do not come with reducers or droppers.
Safety
This oil can cause skin sensitization if oxidized. Never use essential oils undiluted, in eyes or mucus membranes. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified healthcare practitioner. Keep away from children and pets.
Before using perform a small patch test on your inner forearm or back. Apply a small quantity of diluted essential oil and cover with a bandage. If you experience any irritation use carrier oil or cream to further dilute the essential oil, and then wash with soap and water.
