Pau d’ Arco Extract

Tabebuia impetiginosa is a towering deciduous canopy tree with pink to violet-colored flowers that is native to the tropical regions of the Americas. Pau d’arco is a member of Bignoniaceae plant family, and is used for its inner bark, referred to as “taheebo” or “lapacho”. This tree bark has been employed for thousands of years in the traditional healing practices of native tribes throughout these regions, including the Incas who also made bows out of the tree. Several indigenous names in fact mean “bow stick” or “bow stem”.

One of the best known, but least understood, herbs from the Amazon Rainforest, pau d’arco is a key ingredient in the tribal medicine chest. Typical preparations include tea and liquid extract. Like cat’s claw, pau d’arco tincture should be taken in water with a little lemon juice to assist the tannins in being absorbed through the colon.

Our pau d’arco extract is expertly crafted by our extract team using the dried bark and organic grain alcohol. This tincture has an earthy aroma with a woody, astringent taste and can be taken in water or juice. Pau d’arco extract goes well with others such as black walnut extract or marshmallow root extract. This tincture can be added to a cup of turmeric ginger tea for an extra enhancement.
