Propolis Extract

Propolis is a chemically complex sticky “glue” collected from beehives. It contains resins collected from the buds and leaves of plants, volatile oils, and wax. The exact composition of propolis varies from hive to hive and from season to season, depending on the plants available to the bees for making their honey, propolis, and royal jelly. In cool and damp climates, poplar trees provide most of the resins occurring in propolis. While in the tropical forests, such a wide variety of trees become sources of resins that the exact content of propolis is difficult to determine. Propolis provides protection for the hive.

The propolis utilized in this extract is made from poplar tree resins and is harvested in China. After being harvested from the hive, this propolis undergoes a natural process to separate the resin from the beeswax, ensuring maximum potency. The manufacturing of the propolis takes place in the USA. Our expert extract team then processes this very thick, tar-like, wide spectrum propolis with organic alcohol at our facilities in Eugene, Oregon. Propolis extract is not considered to be vegan.

Propolis has been employed as a food source and as a supplement around the world in a variety of healing traditions for many centuries. Historically it was used by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, and had widespread usage throughout Europe and the Middle East. Its traditional uses include supporting oral health and immune system well-being, among others.

With a sharp and aromatic flavor profile, propolis extract is a good match for goldenseal extract, myrrh extract, or spilanthes extract. Propolis tincture can also be taken in water or juice.
