Spearmint Essential Oil Organic

Our organic spearmint essential oil is steam distilled from Mentha spicata. This invigorating and refreshing essential oil is typically used in perfumery, soaps, and lotion recipes. Spearmint is a top note that is wonderful radiating out of a diffuser or in a variety of aromatherapy sprays.

Despite their shared aroma, spearmint contains little to no menthol when compared to peppermint. This makes them interchangeable from a fragrance perspective but not necessarily from a functional aspect. Spearmint is particularly useful in calming tension, gently waking up the senses and clearing the mind. Emotionally invigorating, this oil is a staple in the essential oil world and a wonderful addition to most blends.

Aroma Fresh and minty, spearmint essential oil is also warming to the senses. It is slightly sweeter and not quite as intense as peppermint essential oil.

Constituents This oil contains carvone, limonene and β-myrcene.

Carvone is also found in caraway, dill, and verbena. This is the distinguishing compound that separates spearmint from peppermint.

Limonene is dominant in many citruses such as orange, grapefruit, tangerine and lemon.

β-Myrcene is in rosemary, hops, bay leaves, and juniper berry.

Blending and Uses Spearmint essential oil balances well with basil, eucalyptus, jasmine, lemon, peppermint, and rosemary. It has a medium aroma strength and thin consistency.

Packaging 1/2 oz. and 1 oz. essential oils are packaged in amber glass bottles with drop reducers for easy application. Larger sizes are packaged in amber screw cap bottles and do not come with reducers or droppers.

Safety This oil can cause skin sensitization and mucous membrane irritation. Never use essential oils undiluted, in eyes or mucus membranes. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified healthcare practitioner. Keep away from children and pets.

Before using perform a small patch test on your inner forearm or back. Apply a small quantity of diluted essential oil and cover with a bandage. If you experience any irritation use carrier oil or cream to further dilute the essential oil, and then wash with soap and water.
