Description

Umckaloabo is a member of the geranium family and is indigenous to South Africa and Lesotho. It is distributed widely throughout its native range, growing in many parts of the country. This plant is adapted to survive grassfires due to the underground network of root-like branches that it produces. Pelargonium sidoides has dark red flowers with thin spindly petals. These lovely flowers appear throughout the year, most prominently during the spring and summer months. A perennial plant that can last for years in cultivation, umckaloabo dies back in wintertime within its wild habitat. They are commonly grown as ornamental plants and nurtured in flower beds, with their ease of care.

Umckaloabo root is typically employed in decoctions, syrups, and extracts. It is frequently blended with echinacea or elder berry in herbal formulations. With an extensive history of use for its wellness benefits, umckaloabo supports healthy sinus, nasal, and bronchial function.*

Our umckaloabo extract is made from dried roots and organic alcohol at our extract facility in Eugene, Oregon. It has a flavor that is somewhat sweet, yet bitter, and subtly astringent and earthy. Umckaloabo tincture can be taken in water or juice or added to teas like echinacea & elder tea or turmeric ginger tea. This extract blends well with astragalus, ashwagandha, or reishi extracts.
