Yohimbe, also written as johimbi, is a stately evergreen belonging to the Rubiaceae family. Native to the lowland forests of western and central Africa, this tree has grey to reddish-brown bark and oval shaped leaves that are grouped into threes.
Yohimbe bark has a long history of use as a reproductive stimulant in traditional West African herbalism. The bark contains the alkaloid, yohimbine, thought to be responsible for many of the botanical’s favorable qualities. Yohimbine has since been synthesized in a lab and is now sold as a prescription drug. The yohimbe bark powder offered by Mountain Rose Herbs should not be equated with the synthesized yohimbine.
Our yohimbe bark powder is made from wildharvested bark and typical preparations include tincturing as a liquid extract, encapsulating, and adding to smoothies or other beverages.
